En una oportunidad llegó una paciente a neonatología y fue recibida por Rocío, una enfermera de UCI Pediátrica. Esta pequeña tuvo una asfixia severa al momento del parto por lo que llegó en un estado crítico a la unidad; Rocío dio todo con esta pequeña, la cual lamentablemente falleció, vía venosa, intubación mano a mano con el médico, aplicación de técnicas clínicas, reanimación farmacológica y mecánica, pero no funcionó.

Y cuando llegó el momento de informarle al familiar y extubarla en sus brazos para despedirla, creo que pocas veces vi ese nivel de humanidad donde arropó a esa pequeña con una mantita, acarició su frente y abrazó a esa madre, para luego ser abrazada por mí y escucharla llorar destrozada diciendo: "Lo di todo y no pude."

Creo que son momentos dignos de reconocer.

On one occasion, a patient arrived in the Neonatal Unit and was cared for by Rocío, a Pediatric ICU nurse. This little baby had suffered severe asphyxia during birth and arrived at the unit in critical condition. Rocío gave everything she had for this baby. Sadly, despite establishing IV access, assisting with intubation, working side by side with the physician, and carrying out advanced clinical interventions, including pharmacologic and mechanical resuscitation, the baby did not survive.

When it came time to tell the family and remove the breathing tube so the mother could hold her daughter for the final time, I witnessed a level of humanity that I have rarely seen. Rocío gently wrapped the baby in a small blanket, softly stroked her forehead, and embraced the grieving mother. Afterward, I hugged Rocío, and she broke down in tears, saying, "I gave everything I had, and it wasn't enough."

I believe these are the moments that truly deserve to be recognized.
