Erica’s actions consistently inspire confidence and elevate the standard of care.
I am honored to write this for a truly exceptional nurse leader whose compassion, integrity, and dedication exemplify the very spirit of the DAISY Award—Erica Knipe.

I understand she is the Charge Nurse in the OR but was detailed to fill in as the 5A/B Nurse Manager, and she did this effortlessly.

In her role as a nurse leader, Erica consistently goes above and beyond to support patients, families, and staff. She leads with both clinical excellence and genuine humanity, ensuring that high-quality, patient-centered care remains at the forefront of everything their team does. Her presence creates a culture of safety, trust, and respect—one where patients feel heard and staff feel valued.

What sets Erica apart is her unwavering commitment to the VAMC. She’s come in when we were critically short to ensure her staff and the Veterans were safe. She is approachable, supportive, and deeply invested in the growth and well-being of others. Whether responding to a complex patient situation, mentoring a new nurse, or advocating for system-level improvements, she demonstrates calm leadership, sound judgment, and heartfelt compassion.

Erica’s actions consistently inspire confidence and elevate the standard of care.

I will share one example amongst many—we had a patient who unexpectedly passed away, our unit was short, and Erica came in to assist with patient care, conducting the final salute, and just being there for her staff. Every one of us nurses on the floor that evening was amazed and wanted to be and do better because of her. Her dedication, her passion, her selflessness were exactly what was needed in a time when we were truly unsure of our next moves in a time of shock and sorrow.

Patients and families often express gratitude for the reassurance, dignity, and empathy they receive under Erica’s guidance. Staff members, likewise, feel empowered and supported, knowing they have a leader who listens, advocates, and leads by example.

Erica does not simply manage—she inspires.

For Erica’s extraordinary contributions to nursing practice, leadership, and compassionate care, I wholeheartedly believe she deserves the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Leaders. Her impact is lasting, meaningful, and felt by all who have the privilege of working with or being cared for by her.

Erica has changed my life for the better and is truly a blessing.

I often say you can tell who has a “good soul,” and Erica definitely is one of those people.
