He never sugarcoated situations, yet he always delivered information with empathy and sincerity, which helped me trust him completely.
My son came in for a routine adenotonsillectomy, and after many complications, ended up staying for 6 days. Robert was our night nurse for most of our stay. From the very beginning, he showed an exceptional balance of compassion, professionalism, and honesty that made an incredibly difficult time more manageable for our family. His bedside manner was truly outstanding — kind, calm, and reassuring, yet knowledgeable and confident in every aspect of my son’s care.
What stood out most was his ability to know exactly what was needed in each moment. He supported and comforted us when we needed encouragement, but he also pushed us when necessary to help my son continue to progress. He never sugarcoated situations, yet he always delivered information with empathy and sincerity, which helped me trust him completely. He also went above and beyond during two stressful middle-of-the-night situations when our son’s IV started to come out. Both times, he handled what felt like special operations with skill, patience, and determination, ultimately saving the IV and sparing my son additional pain and procedures.
Watching him work under pressure while staying calm and caring was truly remarkable. Beyond the excellent medical care, he helped keep our spirits up during long nights in the hospital. He treated my son not just as a patient, but as a person, and he treated our family with genuine kindness and respect. I am deeply grateful for the care he provided and will never forget the impact he had on my son’s hospitalization experience. He is exactly the kind of nurse the DAISY Award was created to recognize.
