Zakiyya's nomination read:
"My husband is a 68-year-old who, upon admission to the hospital, had undergone multiple surgeries over the last five months. When he was admitted into the hospital, he was in excruciating pain. We were tired, emotionally drained, and scared of what the next few days would bring.
Zakiyya was his nurse for six to eight nights while we were there. I cannot express enough gratitude for the compassion and exceptional care she provided. She listened to my concerns, addressed every issue that arose during his stay, and made me feel heard. I went home two nights of the nine-night stay knowing my husband was receiving the very best care and never had to worry that a call light would go unanswered."
