Ronnie absolutely impacted my patient’s experience at TMC. Although it was an indirect connection, it was an important connection nonetheless.
Bed Control is often overlooked for awards such as this because of their “Behind-the-scenes” job. However, we feel Ronnie Cubley went above and beyond for our patient in the COU. In the midst of a busy and demanding shift, he put our patient first in COU and is was so appreciated by the patient.
Our patient had a lot of things happen all at once. She came to the ER thinking it would be a quick fix; an easy answer; however, it ended up not being so. She was placed in the COU in hopes she would not be here long; however, plans changed. Upon coming on to our shift, the patient desperately wanted to go upstairs. She felt like a bigger room, private bathroom, and a window would ease her nerves. We immediately worried this would not be something we could make happen on our shift. ER holds were so busy! Our first call was to bed control. Ronnie, without hesitation, made it happen for our patient. Through proactive communication, persistence, and teamwork, Ronnie ensured our patient got a room upstairs quickly, which reduced our patient’s stress level and ensured our patient at TMC was satisfied with her care. We truly feel like Ronnie meets the DAISY Award criteria often, and it goes unsaid because it looks a little different than it would for a floor nurse.

During a high-demand period, Ronnie demonstrated exceptional coordination and commitment by securing a room upstairs and a telemetry monitor for my patient who desperately wanted to go upstairs. He was so helpful and respectful during this time of prioritizing a bed upstairs for my patient. Although I’m sure his plate was full, he allocated his attention to my patient and her needs.
