Sherri consistently goes above and beyond for all of her patients, but her assessment skills and care are exceptional.
RN Kretkowski was working in ASU's phase II recovery area and received a post op patient from PACU who was s/p a right inguinal hernia repair. Sherri immediately noticed an abnormal swelling in the patient's surgical area. She began speaking with the patient regarding how it looked pre-op and his pain level. Sherri performed an immediate evaluation and escalation via the surgical PA, then the patient's surgeon.
Patient was returned to the OR and had a hematoma evacuated and patient was admitted.
This is the second great catch RN Kretkowski has made in the last 30 days- she previously found a post op complication on a post op A-V fistula placement. She noticed a hematoma forming and immediately notified the surgeon. That patient also required immediate return to the OR.
