He strategically used his clinical experience to bring this volatile situation to a resolution.
We deeply appreciate the care and compassion shown during BERT alerts. For example, when he responded to 6W, Mohammed was respectful and kind. He was able to de-escalate a mental health patient. When this patient was at the most vulnerable time, Mohammed used great listening skills, great non-threatening body language, and was able to develop trust and establish boundaries and able to set limits without making the patient feel that he was losing control. Mohammed was able to convince this challenging patient to take his PRN meds.

He strategically used his clinical experience to bring this volatile situation to a resolution. From being combative and aggressive towards staff, Mohammed was able to de-escalate this patient, where restraints were not used, no one was injured, and everyone remained safe because of Mohammed.

Through calmness, trustworthy demeanor, bargaining strategies, and clinical experience, everything was back to a normal healing environment. He went even further, spending time teaching, coaching, and mentoring staff on ways to recognize these situations where they can intervene sooner rather than later. For all those reasons and exceptional work, I am nominating Mohammed Hussain for the DAISY Award.
