Where others might see resistance, Amanda sees a person in need of understanding.
I would like to nominate Amanda Hermz for the DAISY Award. Amanda consistently exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary nurse, especially when caring for our most challenging patients. She never shies away from difficult situations. Instead, she steps forward with confidence, compassion, and professionalism.

Recently, we had a cognitively impaired patient whose behaviors escalated due to being separated from their parent. It was a group effort to get this patient's vitals, bathed and settled in the room. Even though Amanda was not the primary nurse, she jumped right in to lend a helping hand. She ensured the patient was safe and created unique alternatives to ensure the assessment and bathing were completed.

Amanda has a remarkable ability to connect with patients who may be scared, frustrated, overwhelmed, and have difficulties communicating. Where others might see resistance, Amanda sees a person in need of understanding. She approaches every interaction with patience and empathy, taking the time to truly listen and ensure her patients feel heard and respected. Her calm demeanor often de-escalates tense situations and creates an environment of trust and safety. Beyond her clinical skill and sound judgment,

Amanda demonstrates unwavering advocacy for her patients. She collaborates effectively with the healthcare team, ensuring that even the most complex cases receive thoughtful, coordinated care. She treats every patient with dignity, regardless of the challenges involved.

Amanda’s willingness to embrace difficult assignments without hesitation speaks volumes about her dedication, strength of character, and deep commitment to nursing. She not only provides exceptional care but also sets a powerful example for her colleagues. Her compassion, resilience, and steadfast commitment to her patients do not go unnoticed and would make her an exceptional DAISY Award winner.
