My father has been an Army veteran patient of the West Haven VA System for many, many years, having developed COPD in his 60's and needing frequent medical interventions since then.
He will be 92 years old this November and is now under the home-based nursing care of Jeanette Hutchinson, RN.
When Jeanette was assigned a few years ago, we experienced a significant improvement in my father's general health and well-being. He has always had a good and positive attitude about life and his health, and Jeanette works closely with him to ensure that mindset is maintained.
She carefully explains the effects of his condition in a manner he understands and is respectful and cordial in her conversations with him.
Last year my father required outpatient surgery, which turned into an admission to the VA. Jeanette coordinated the surgery with his physician and the Emergency Department, but more importantly, she kept in constant communication with me throughout the ordeal. It was very reassuring to know what was happening with his upgraded care needs.
She has also worked effectively in researching and seeking recommendations for various methods, equipment, and resources available to my father and his condition. We appreciate and have come to depend on her advice and assistance in addressing and resolving health problems that develop.
Besides being an excellent nurse and medical professional, Jeanette is a warm and caring woman whom we have had the pleasure of getting to know.
We are so thankful for access to the Home Based Primary Care program.
