Carol is a fierce advocate for staff and patients and looks to improve processes as the PACU continues to evolve.
Carol McMahon is one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. Her impact is felt by all who work alongside her. She is the face of Ellison 3 and she is loved by the staff. Carol truly cares about people: both staff and patients. I admire her for her ability to communicate with anyone at any time. She is reflective in her interactions and it is clear that she is a life-long learner who constantly challenges and refines herself as she goes.
She empowers everyone around her by empowering herself and opening doors to colleagues to do the same. Carol notices talent and goes out of her way to harness it through sincere constructive conversations, encouragement, and role modeling. It's Carol's mission to be a light and uplift others.
Carol has certainly inspired me and mentored me - especially when I was new to the PACU as a Covid ICU nurse. Carol is a visionary. Together we started a PACU Shared Governance that is still thriving after a year and counting. It was Carol's vision that drove this. She sensed a need for staff participation and collaboration after a tough couple of years of COVID-19 in the PACU. It is one thing to have a grand idea and a much more difficult thing to see it through daily - despite challenges. She is constantly raising the bar by improving processes.
Carol has been working with PCAs and Nurses in their PCA Task Force Shared Governance group to tackle multi-unit-based issues, as well as enhancing the work culture among multidisciplinary groups. When our formal management changed and we were short an evening manager, Carol drew up a proposal for a Triage nurse role to help offset some of the Resource Nurse's many duties. This role was rolled out and helped run Ellison 3 efficiently. It is this invested care that Carol has for the PACU that stands out and makes her invaluable.
