Joan worked tirelessly and pushed people in the right direction to get things taken care of leaving NO detail out or to question.
I made a point to ask who would be the proper person or people to send details of a specific client that had been at UVA for almost a year and who was assigned the most amazing person as a case manager. I feel it necessary to make her good work and diligent efforts known!!
My brother had been there with caseworkers from Region 10 and with Reach failing to assist him, leaving the family hanging with no follow-up and with no potential solutions, no guidance. TG is autistic and was in after a severe infection, toe amputation, and seizures at his initial intake. A miracle happened for him - Joan Smith-Johnson was assigned to his case and his situation took a turn for a very positive outcome. She started out by making contact with all involved in his case and obtaining information on anyone who needed to be included in a series of much-needed meetings, and consultations, and began a very determined process to find possible placements for him. Our family was at our wit's end until she came into the picture.
She worked tirelessly and pushed people in the right direction to get things taken care of leaving NO detail out or to question. She fought hard for TG and thanks to her efforts, her determination, and her excellent dedication to both the client and the hospital, we were able to take him to a wonderful home with a group of people who are taking excellent care of our brother.
We are in awe of her accomplishments for his case and left there wishing that she could be his continued case worker. She is thorough, cares about the details, and makes sure all aspects are taken care of down to the letter, even when some of the detail was not on her shoulders to take care of. Her expertise and determination along with dedication deserve recognition. This family will forever be grateful and feel we are truly blessed that she was brought in to oversee TG's case!! Thank you for giving us a miracle worker that gave a much deserving young man the placement he needed!!
