2 West is a primarily surgical unit that embraces Memorial Hermann's Mission, Vision, and Values by delivering high-quality care to the people we serve. Our team's care and compassion doesn't end with the patient - it extends to the families as well. Susana Salazar and her orientee, Alondra Contreras, recognized a family's need for support during a very difficult time as their loved one was nearing the end of her life. Susana is a member of our bereavement council and remembered learning about a service Memorial Hermann Northeast offers through the cafeteria that offers support for families during difficult times. She knew this family would benefit from this support as they did not want to leave the patient's bedside. The cafeteria brought a tray of fruit, finger sandwiches, and beverages. The family was so grateful and appreciative. This allowed them to remain with their loved one as she came to the end of her life. The nurses exhibited compassion and caring.
