My husband went into the Emergency room and we were all scared. When I walked into the room, Abby had already calmed my husband down. This is someone who hates talking with doctors and is very stubborn. He was relaxed and felt at ease under her care. Abby was thorough, patient, and compassionate. When she knew he was uncomfortable with a question that was asked, she would look at me for an answer. She immediately knew by my face what the answer was and I could confirm. When they needed a urine sample, Abby exhibited respect and dignity to my husband; offering a male nurse or an aide, a wheelchair, or if I wanted to help him. She reviewed every single option. Abby was even able to make me feel relaxed in this stressful environment. She explained why each tube of blood was being drawn and for what along with what every imaging test was for. Each time it had to be repeated, she would continue to explain it to my husband until he completely understood. Any time a new face would come into the room, Abby was right there to explain who the person was and how they were involved in my husband’s care. At shift change, Abby explained to the new nurses what the plan was in front of us so we felt comfortable with the new team taking care of my husband. He trusted her 100%. Abby is empathetic, knowledgeable, and truly cares for her patients and their family members as if they are part of her own family. We cannot think of anyone else who is more deserving of this award.
