Abby thankfully did not take no for an answer and knew that if the patient went to another facility, they would get another ED charge.
An ED patient from the previous night arrived in Dublin this morning to have a scheduled ultrasound done that could not be completed overnight. The patient was subsequently placed in the 7 am slot for this testing. While attempting to inform ultrasound the patient was present for the exam, Abby was met with no answers to calls. She then proceeded to call multiple different departments within the hospital to help this patient get the needed ultrasound completed. She met this with much resistance but continued to keep the patient's best interest in mind and help this patient get what was needed. After finally getting in touch with someone who could complete the exam, she was told it would not be possible to do so today and that the patient would need to go to another facility. Abby thankfully did not take no for an answer and knew that if the patient went to another facility, they would get another ED charge. She took the bull by the horns and called the transfer center, which then allowed her to rally the troops. An outpatient appointment was set for this patient later in the day at another accepting facility and they were able to get the test completed and without an extra charge. It's instances like this that I see in Abby almost every shift where she stays well past time to go home to make sure patients are satisfied with their care and get completed tasks done. She is a clinical lead who truly leads by example, from patient care to taking care of her fellow co-workers. She truly is a servant leader, and Dublin ED is lucky to have her.
