April 2015 Honoree
addie conner, RN, BSN, CPEN
Addie Conner exemplifies the kind of nurse that the patients and families, as well as the entire healthcare team recognize as an outstanding role model. The following scenario is an example of her kindness, caring, compassion and vigilant in patient care. The "super-human work done by nurses every day."
My son has been experiencing pain that we have now come to find out is a UPJ obstruction. We have been in the emergency department several times in the last several weeks for pain control and testing. I can tell you that the care that Addie Connor, RN gave us was by far the best that we have ever received. She is an awesome patient advocate. She thinks ahead and starts an IV and give medication before my son leaves for testing; which has not always been the case. I understand that Children's is a very busy place with many children to take care of. We need more nurses like Addie who treat their patients like their own children. She also thought of me as a caregiver. Addie made sure that I knew where things were, like the restrooms and the pantry. She also was mentoring a student nurse while taking care of my son. It makes me happy that someone like Addie will be showing the nurses of the future how emergency nursing should be done.
