My 62-year-old special needs brother was admitted to CMC and Amanda was his nurse for several days during his week-long stay. In addition to his developmental disabilities, my brother suffers from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder and Amanda attended to his every need, question, concern, and phobia with extreme patience, compassion, and concern. She was extremely cheerful and carefully explained everything to him (and to me). We were informed of his discharge at noon on a Friday and were not prepared, as we had anticipated his discharge a day or two later. There wasn't any food in his house and he did not have any clothes at the hospital. In addition, there was a snow storm coming that afternoon and I live an hour and a half away. Amanda listened to my concerns and helped me coordinate what I needed to do at his home. She expedited his release as best as possible in an effort to allow me to get home before the storm. Additionally, when I arrived at his local pharmacy, his prescription had not been called in due to a physician oversight. At this point, the snow was coming down heavily and roads were turning bad. I called Amanda and she very quickly resolved the issue and I had the prescription within 20 minutes! Again, she showed tremendous care, concern, and understanding during this stressful situation. At approximately 7:30 pm that evening, as Amanda's shift should have been ending, she called me to ensure everything was fine and expressed concern about whether I had made it home. As it turned out, I did not make it home that evening and chose to stay at a local hotel once my brother was settled in our mother's home. The stress of the hospital stay and the day had been a lot on me and it was so comforting to have a kind voice call to check on me. Amanda is truly special.
