Mandy goes above and beyond and exemplifies the kind of nurse OSF Saint Francis Medical Center should be proud to call one of their employees. I am writing this nomination a few weeks late, due to the circumstances of my granddaughter having an extended stay in NICU.

On the evening of 6/24, I received a phone call from my daughter who was 31 weeks pregnant. She was in a panic stage when she called me. She stated she was in terrible pain, bleeding and was on her way to the hospital. She had spent a couple weeks on Antepartum with a short cervix and was discharged to home a week earlier on bed rest. As an RN on the Family Birthing Center, I was terrified when I received her call. My first thought was that she was having an abruption and I was going to lose both her and my granddaughter. I immediately got dressed and headed to the hospital. I had no idea what I would walk into. My first thought was to call L&D to let them know the situation. In all the commotion, I could not remember L&D's phone number. Instead, I called Antepartum and talked to Mandy and explained the circumstances through my panicked voice and uncontrollable tears.

Upon arrival at the hospital, my daughter was in L&D being assessed. It was such a relief to see that she was awake and talking. This is where Mandy went above and beyond. Mandy updated L&D that Heidi was on her way to the hospital and that she was in pain and bleeding. She went to the ER and was waiting when Heidi arrived. She transported her to L&D and met me there when I arrived. Heidi had a stat c/section and Mandy stayed with me as my support until delivery was completed.

She does exemplify the kind of nurse that we should all be by going above and beyond. I have worked with Mandy for many years and she always makes sure all her patients are treated in the same professional manner. I am happy to say Heidi, Spencer and Grandma all survived this frightening ordeal and are doing fine. Thanks Mandy for going above and beyond for my family.
