RN Amber Long – a float nurse – is the embodiment of nursing excellence. From head to toe, Amber cared for my physical and spiritual needs as a patient, while she took the VA’s “I CARE” values to another level. She got fresh linens, a pillow boost, a catheter-stabilizer, peri-area powder, foot powder, and slip-proof socks for me, and she treated my ailments, however great or small. Amber was the first nurse – in 3 days – to get a scale and weigh me (myself) stabilize my foley catheter to me let, clean my glans, penis, and catheter tubing, and verify every medicine with the nursing staff – as a floater – and explain to me exactly what meds I was taking while they were being administered. Her patient treatment goes far beyond thorough care: it’s meticulously holistic. I say, even, Holy-istic because Amber also embodies the Faith, Hope and Love that is Jesus Christ’s: the Great Healer.
