RN Amber Long – a float nurse – is the embodiment of nursing excellence. From head to toe, Amber cared for my physical and spiritual needs as a patient, while she took the VA’s “I CARE” values to another level. She got fresh linens, a pillow boost, a catheter-stabilizer, peri-area powder, foot powder, and slip-proof socks for me, and she treated my ailments, however great or small. Amber was the first nurse – in 3 days – to get a scale and weigh me (myself) stabilize my foley catheter to me let, clean my glans, penis, and catheter tubing, and verify every medicine with the nursing staff – as a floater – and explain to me exactly what meds I was taking while they were being administered. Her patient treatment goes far beyond thorough care: it’s meticulously holistic. I say, even, Holy-istic because Amber also embodies the Faith, Hope and Love that is Jesus Christ’s: the Great Healer. Amber suggested that nobody can take better care of me than me, but all the power comes from above. Amber rejuvenated my Faith, Hope, and Love, and the greatest of these that Amber shares is LOVE!!
