The care that I witnessed Amber giving Mr. C was with the very utmost compassion and gentleness.
Mr. C was admitted to the CVICU after undergoing a surgical procedure; I want to commend the meticulous care and professionalism of Amber Wright, RN.

My contact with Amber started on the evening of Thursday. I cannot speak about the care given him prior to that day; only finding out about his surgery midday on Thursday.

The care that I witnessed Amber giving Mr. C was with the very utmost compassion and gentleness. She was patient with his "demands," and he responded well to her instructions. Mr. C was very much set in his ways, and has a pain tolerance of like negative two on a scale of one to 10. Amber explained every procedure to him to help him understand what she was having to do, and he appreciated her doing so and it helped relieve some of the stress involved for him.

His room was in view of the nurse's station and Amber moved his bed so that he could look out and see her as she went about her daily routine. He very much wanted to see her, and I feel there was an attachment between him and Amber. On the evening of Friday, it was discussed with a representative of the hospital that Mr. C would probably not survive, and it was decided that he would from then on receive "comfort care."

On Saturday at approximately 0730 hours, I received a call telling me that Mr. C had taken a turn for the worse, and Amber felt he may not survive the day. I quickly dressed and went to the CVICU and to his bedside. I could immediately tell he had taken such a turn, and I stayed as long as I could until I had to leave with much regret for another commitment.

Amber told me that she would keep me informed of his status, and she did a tremendous job of convening impending signs of his decline. At 1745 hours, I received a call letting me know that Mr. C had expired. I explained that I was an hour and a half away, but was immediately leaving and heading toward the hospital. Amber asked if I wanted to view Mr. C's body before it was released and I asked if it were possible. She stated that she would give him post-mortem care and have him ready for my viewing by the time I arrived. Upon arrival, I was allowed to enter the room and was alone with Mr. C's body. I spent time thanking God for his life, and our friendship.

Therefore I want to extend my heartfelt and personal appreciations to Miss Amber Wright, RN. Her actions showed the greatest of actions of her profession as a registered nurse, and is a credit to herself, the CVICU department, and CHRISTUS St. Michael Health Care System.
