Ana McCoy goes above and beyond in many ways in the clinic. She is always working to make sure patients and coworkers are welcomed and taken care of. In the most recent instance, Ana had a young couple that were both developmentally challenged and estranged from family and friends. They did not have a favorable financial situation or personal support system. Ana recognized their vulnerability due to social questions and comments made by both parents-to-be. Ana contacted Social Services at Mercy and several agencies on their behalf to see what she could offer them if they gave their permission for a referral. She invested her time and energy in supporting this couple and their baby to make sure they had resources for diapers, food, education, and emotional support. She engaged in medical ethics to be sure the patient and Mercy were served appropriately.
