Andrea helped me with my emotions as well during the last few hours of my husband's life.
I am so glad that Andrea Heskett was the Charge Nurse for my husband during his last few nights at IU West before his passing away. The last night that he was actually lucid enough during the night, he was pulling the mitts off and swinging them around in the air. Andrea saw this and with great caring dealt with her sassy patient to try to keep his mitts on him to ensure he did not pull out his IVs. He entertained her all night long from what I have heard, and I so very much appreciate that he had her around to deal with his sassy antics. I am so glad that he had a few good moments like this during the last week of his life while in the care of IU West.

Andrea, along with the other nurses, treated my husband with great medical care. Andrea helped me with my emotions as well during the last few hours of my husband's life. She is the epitome of an absolutely outstanding medical professional RN! I have dealt with a lot of nurses with my husband's many hospital visits over the past few years and Andrea is the best.

***

Andrea displays such a high level of compassion for her job and her patients on the regular, but she truly went above and beyond for her patient and their spouses during such an unfortunate time for them. She worked on and built a great rapport with the spouse of her comfort care patient and turned out to be the wife's biggest support through the passing of her loved one when other family chose not to be there. Andrea has communicated between all teams to make sure that her patient was comfortable and cared for properly, but also that the spouse's wishes were considered. They basically made a comfort plan for the night and when some unfortunate events in the family took place, Andrea was right there by the wife's side to re-evaluate and choose the best course of action.

Andrea was very attentive and comforting with both the patient and spouse making sure she wasn't alone during the passing of her husband. She even went out of her way to run to the vending machines to get some caffeine to help the wife get through the night. During these pandemic times, it has been rough on staff and family, but she truly made a difference, and I am proud to work with a nurse with such a high level of caring compassion.
