Anne has an open-door policy on the unit which easily allows for open communication between herself and her staff members. When you go to her office, she always makes the time to talk to you, even if she is busy with other work. She maintains transparency on the unit, making sure every one of her staff members is aware of various changes and why those changes are being put into place, whether that be new staff members coming on board, new policies, or new workflows that are being implemented.
Anne models professional development through her own continued growth in certification and higher education. She continuously encourages her staff to utilize opportunities for growth and uses her own experiences to help staff reach their goals.
Anne makes sure to always put herself in the shoes of her staff. If she knows the unit will be short on staff, she comes to work in scrubs so that she can help assist in patient care. She is willing to work along-side her staff to make changes to patient care and to help take some workload off of her staff so that people are not getting too tired. She routinely does shout-outs in huddles to keep staff motivated when something good happens and is transparent about when care does not go as planned, however, she is always willing to brainstorm and try new ideas to improve the outcomes.
Anne is always one of the first in a room to help with a difficult situation, whether to lend a hand or talk to a family member. She uses her time off of work to do volunteer opportunities with the organization. After many years as a bedside nurse, she is continuing to grow herself and her abilities through certification and completing a master's program. She is modeling nursing for those around her and encourages those around her to continue to grow in their profession.
