My husband collapsed Easter morning without any symptoms and ended up with a fractured nose. There was no medical history that could be related to the fall. I brought him to the ER for evaluation and he was treated with kindness and respect by Annette Sutherland. With my husband being a pharmacist and myself a nurse we are familiar with the protocols and routines. This can be a positive or negative when suddenly you are now the patient on the other side.
However, Annette was reassuring, communicated what was going to happen and had the cardiac workup before the physician requested. I was truly impressed with her skills, knowledge and bedside manner. Her approach to patient care was reassuring and comforting even among two skeptical healthcare professionals. My husband ended up transferring to Downtown, but the care received at Community ER couldn't have been any better.
One week later, he returned to the ER and Annette was working and we couldn't have been happier to see her again. Her caring approach and professionalism were again outstanding. She cared for us as if we were family. Annette has a way of caring for the patient that makes the patient and family feel as they are the most important. She is willing to share her personal side with the patient that makes the patient experience truly feel personal and valued. When we returned to the ER for a third visit during the night, of course, Annette wasn't working, and it was then we realized how wonderful her attention and approach to patient care was so significant and valuable.
Annette is truly a reflection of the ultimate patient experience as experienced by other healthcare professionals who can be the most critical. Over the week of hospitalization, my husband received exceptional care at both the Downtown and Community hospitals and with all the healthcare contacts that we had Annette was outstanding in so many ways. We truly appreciated her attention to detail and professionalism.
