Anthony took it upon himself to collaborate with LifeNet to revisit the conversation with the family to unpack all of the questions unanswered by the doctor.
Upon arriving on the unit, immediately this RN's presence was noticeable by the way he helped others with confidence and pride. He was very welcoming. I observed him work two codes on the same patient without hesitation and in the middle of brain death testing. After a difficult family interaction with a doctor, This RN took it upon himself to collaborate with LifeNet to revisit the conversation with the family to unpack all of the questions unanswered by the doctor. He took the time to break down brain death by each section of the brain, its function, and how it is tested for function. He answered the family’s questions and apologized for the doctor’s behavior many times. Most noticeably this RN acknowledged a specific statement said by the doctor that upset the patient’s daughter the most. He acknowledged that even if the family had been able to be contacted the day before there is nothing anyone could have done, her heart was stopped when she was found. The patient’s daughter cried with relief and thanked the RN for removing the guilt placed by the doctor. This RN is a Rock Star!
