I hope and pray that Tony continues to be recognized for his strong work ethic and his compassion and empathy for his patients.
I truly believe Tony really has a calling for nursing/healthcare. He was the most caring and attentive nurse during my hospital stay, which also happens to be my 1st surgery and 1st hospitalization ever. He showed his extra level of care beyond the bedside by alerting me to how powerful the IV meds being administered by the pump is, and I truly believe this came from a place of caring to ensure I would not become dependent on the medication since I was clicking the pump button a lot. (I was in a lot of pain! Additionally, he made sure to specifically seek the resident doctor to discuss my pain (as I had described it), and on his next shift, he made sure to follow up with me, asking if the resident came to see me to discuss my pain. Apart from all the above, any time I was being “handled” by Tony, it was with the utmost tender touch, from removing my catheter to removing my IV line, to ensuring I always had ice cold water, during his shift. I didn’t even need to ask, he would just come back periodically and replace my water with a new cup of cold water, which I needed. The way Tony anticipated my needs, patiently nodded through my rambling stories sometimes, and just took care of me is an experience I will never forget. I hope and pray that Tony continues to be recognized for his strong work ethic and his compassion and empathy for his patients. And I hope he goes very far in his nursing/healthcare career. It is with the utmost gratitude that I nominate Tony for the DAISY Award.
