Ariene managed to comfort me as well as get to the root of some of my anxiety, and communicated this to the provider so that we were able to proceed and I felt safe.
I had to be induced in order to have my baby. Ariene Amaya was my nurse on my third day in the hospital, after I had been on pitocin for many hours. I was exhausted and anxious, and had a lot of pain and discomfort. In the morning near the start of her shift, my blood pressure became high enough that my midwife had to be called, and I potentially needed more interventions to keep myself and my baby safe. My midwife was worried for me but she actually lost her temper with me when I was upset about the need for more interventions. Ariene managed to comfort me as well as get to the root of some of my anxiety, and communicated this to the provider so that we were able to proceed and I felt safe. As my contractions intensified, she helped coach me through them with breathing techniques, and she eventually helped me feel comfortable with the decision to get an epidural as this would actually decrease my pain and thus put me at less risk for dangerously high blood pressure. I was scared of the spinal injection to get my epidural, so she coached me through this process, holding my hands and teaching me how to breathe. She taught me positions I could lie in in the bed to help the baby continue to descend, as I could no longer walk with the epidural. I am a nurse myself, and I honestly feel like Ariene gave me a renewed goal to provide the best possible care that I can to my patients. I see her as an angel.
