Recently we had a patient who was readmitted due to complications from surgery. The patient deteriorated subtly over several days and Ashley was the first to become concerned. She informed the team that the patient was not looking good and something had to be done because up to now the family was not satisfied. She was concerned that the patient was exhibiting signs and symptoms that were not improving. Ashley facilitated team communication and a meeting was organized to discuss the patient's progress. The patient was admitted to the OSCU and upon her return to the unit the team was much more responsive and involved in her care. The parents and the patient developed a rapport with Ashley and requested her whenever she was on. Ashley truly exemplified what it meant to advocate for your patient and ensure a quality outcome. She is such a valuable member of our team.
