Ashley Yurco displays extraordinary compassionate care each day in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Carolinas Medical Center. One example is when a patient in the MICU was on comfort care and actively dying. Ashley advocated for the patient and arranged to have his pet dog come to MICU to be with the patient during his last moments. The dog stayed on the patient's chest during his last breath. After the patient passed, the dog stayed in bed for two more hours. Ashley's actions provided the patient with comfort and dignity during his final moments. The dog was also able to say goodbye to his owner. This instance shows how Ashley exemplifies empathy and compassion and goes the extra mile for her patients and families.
