I had four patients on a busy night and 2 were especially challenging. There was a paralyzed incapacitated patient that was turning for the worst: respiratory distress with tracheotomy, fever, tachycardia. I was in the process of getting orders and making phone calls to multiple healthcare team members when Audrey offered to help. She advocated for this patient by providing extra safety while I was busy taking and entering orders. She took stat labs from a central line, gave Tylenol for a fever and changed the whole bed. I collaborated with her about the plan of care.
During this time I had another patient become febrile and shake. Audrey was able to monitor both patients while once again I was trying to get new orders. She made sure the patients were safe. She was able to do this while maintaining a patient assignment of her own.
She shows many exemplary qualities every time I work with her. I know she is well organized and composed when dealing with stressful situations. I enjoy working with her and want her to know how much she is valued on this unit.
Note: Audrey was also honored with the DAISY at her previous place of employment.
