Audrey's constant communication between the physicians and staff ensured the mother's care was well-orchestrated.
This nurse never quits. There was a code called in labor and delivery. This mother was having the worst day instead of a joyous day. Once the mother was in the OR, this nurse helped give all the code medications. She ensured that the one IV at the time remained patent and intact. Once the mother was down in ICU, this nurse helped coordinate the patient's movements and care. She did this off of all the notes that were provided on random pieces of paper. These were a necessary part of this very complicated situation. She did not leave this patient's side. Her constant communication between the physicians and staff ensured the mother's care was well-orchestrated. She was instrumental in the success of this patient’s care. The mother was taken to CSU later that evening. This nurse continued to have hands on with all the needs of this patient’s complex care from the multitude of blood transfusions to the vasopressors and the many days of CRRT that it took to stabilize the mother. None of this was asked of her, but with our nurse’s grace, knowledge, experience, sweat, and tears she was able to help this mother become one of the 4% of people who survive this life-threatening situation.
