Audrey was the first to the Veteran’s care and quickly assessed that he could be having a stroke.
Audrey Vigh is the most dedicated RN I have worked with. Each day Audrey goes above and beyond managing a long list of patients with blood pressure issues. She ensures patients log readings, complete follow-up blood work after medication adjustments, and reconciles medications with each call averages out the blood pressure readings for provider review. Sometimes calling them every 2 weeks for months until BP control is achieved. She works tirelessly to contact them to ensure each patient gains control of their blood pressure helping to prevent heart attacks, stroke, and renal failure.

While working with them she gains their trust and interacts with their family members. She worked with one patient who had a heart attack treated with open-heart surgery and valve replacement. He later developed a wound infection which required another outside admission. She coordinated his care with an outside thoracic surgeon, outside wound clinic, social worker, home health, VA infectious disease, and this provider to help with treatment followed by PICC line removal. At one point the patient stated in a secure message, “If I had another child, I would name it after you.” He told this provider Audry was his guardian angel.

She greatly impacted the life of a 49-year-old Veteran whose spouse brought him to the clinic for slurred speech that started the day prior. Audrey was the first to the Veteran’s care and quickly assessed that he could be having a stroke. The patient was speech was slurred but she quickly interviewed the spouse and friend and found out how long the patient had been symptomatic. The information she obtained from her quick assessment was used to transfer the patient to Tampa General where he underwent lifesaving surgery. He was later transferred to the VA for rehabilitation and was recently discharged with a good outcome despite his grave presenting condition.

Audrey performs so many tasks each day that help to make my job manageable and less stressful. Saving this Veteran from provider burnout. I believe that our team of 900 plus patient runs much more efficiently due to her dedication, compassion, and attention to detail. As a Veteran herself she treats each patient with the respect and dignity they deserve and works hard to relate to their issues as if they were her issues. She uses her knowledge of the James Haley VA hospital to help them maneuver through the patient health situations.
