Barbara Malpass, Professional Development Specialist in nursing, was involved in the care of A after the accident that brought her to Vidant Medical Center.
A's story is featured on the Spotlight on Excellence: Extensive Care page.
To recap, when traveling through Greenville en route for job interviews, she and her family were involved in a motor vehicle collision. Her fiancé did not survive the accident, and a pregnant A and her son were transported to Vidant Medical Center for care. During the accident, A's eyeglasses were broken.
Barbara contacted A's eye doctor out of state and was able to get her prescription strength. Barbara then reached out to a local optometrist and worked with them to get new eyeglasses for A. As A was still being cared for as a patient, Barbara went to the office and picked out glasses for her based on what her old pair looked like. Barbara then went and picked them up when they were ready.
So many team members came together to care for her, and I feel Barbara's actions went above and beyond. We're honored to have her on our team and her actions demonstrate what nursing is about.
