I first met Bart a couple of years ago as a student. I was fortunate enough to spend clinical time in the emergency department at BGMC with him. He always took the time to teach me, explain to me, quiz me, and help me gain a better foundation as a nurse. He gave me confidence in myself and always managed to challenge and encourage me. Not only did he teach me valuable information, but he also taught me the importance of caring and helping others. He treats every patient as if he or she were his own family member. Bart told me once that if I am ever questioning what is best for the patient, I should think of what I would do if it were my own family member.
It is hard to put into words Bart's impact on others, whether it is a patient, family member, CMA, a provider or nurse. Every time I mention him to someone, their response is, 'he is simply the best.' I believe this to be true. He is a wonderful educator, nurse, coworker, and overall person. I could not be more grateful to Bart for taking the time, care, and extraordinary passion he did with me, and the others around me. Bart embodies the person every nurse should strive to be.
