She escalates concerns and partners with divisional leadership to ensure the team has the technology, equipment, and supplies that are needed. This is reflected in her team treating patients with deep humanity. Under Beth’s leadership, the customer experience goal was surpassed.
During the chaos in healthcare this past year, Beth has risen to the top as a leader who is adaptable, confident, and creative. She went outside her department and comfort zone to support others. She served as an interim manager for 1 OS and a formal mentor to several peers. She was the divisional chair for the United Way campaign and supports our community by sitting on the United Way financial approval board. Beth co-chairs the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. She co-leads the Manager Mentorship Series as well as represents SOH on the Regional Care Delivery Model team. Beth is an advocate for her team, the patients, our division, and our community.

During the pandemic, Beth’s patient population created unique challenges in keeping the team and patients safe. Who knew when a patient is pushing it is considered an aerosolizing procedure? How do you isolate a COVID-positive mother away from her support system but meet her emotional needs? How do you physically and emotionally support the nurse who is alone in the COVID positive room ALL day? How do you create a safe haven for the infants in these circumstances? Beth and her team not only did this, but they did it while maintaining quality patient care.

Through the use of OB navigators, Beth and her team partnered with multiple community-based programs to offer virtual visits and phone calls so the patients felt emotionally and physically supported at home. For the 5th year in a row, they had no elective deliveries under 39 weeks. Multiple safety initiatives were implemented including ERAS. Beth has strong business acumen. She expertly manages human and financial resources across the budget, productivity, supplies, and staffing processes. She is innovative in her thinking. She looks at cost-saving initiatives and ways to generate additional revenue. This year her team offered the first virtual childbirth classes in the region and started an outpatient lactation program. Beth drives team member development and recognizes meaningful work. She has had team members receive the ACE, Key Contributor, and DAISY Awards. Beth herself received the Rock Star award. The department has a strong Shared Governance that is based on trust and mutual respect. They are empowered to problem solve and encouraged to critically think. Beth is accessible, available, and responsive to her team. When needed she works alongside them on the floor. She escalates concerns and partners with divisional leadership to ensure the team has the technology, equipment, and supplies that are needed. This is reflected in her team treating patients with deep humanity. Under Beth’s leadership, the customer experience goal was surpassed. Beth supports her team in continuing their education. She is planning on returning to school in the Fall for her Master’s degree. Beth is a strong leader who has a vision. There is no doubt she will make a lasting impact on nursing at SOH.
