Betsy took the time to explain what was actually happening and assured me that the doctors and nurses were on top of the changes.
I had a mitral valve repair in December. This was the first major surgery and extended hospital stay I ever experienced during my 65 years. The first few days went very well because I was sedated most of the time coming out of general anesthesia. However, not knowing what to expect from that point on became very unsettling for me. I want to say that all of the nurses and staff did a great job but there was something about Betsy Wakefield that put me at ease, even when things fluctuated. Betsy took the time to explain what was actually happening and assured me that the doctors and nurses were on top of the changes. Her communications with my doctor and PA were thorough as they were kept up to date on my progress and well informed by Betsy before they even came to make their rounds. She even stayed late on Christmas day to get all of my paperwork completed so I could go home that day. I felt very comfortable under Betsy's charge and knew that she had my best interest at heart every day.
The above may sound like what is expected from all nurses, but Betsy went above and beyond making me feel comfortable, she made me feel like I was her only patient and did it in such a way I felt like I was being treated by a friend. For me, this was a very traumatic experience but thanks to Betsy, I left feeling much better about the process and the people.
