He was empathetic, poised, and professional, and put my dad at the center.
My dad was a patient on PCU at Altru with an acute GI bleed. Brady worked the night shift and cared for my dad all weekend. He was empathetic, poised, and professional, and put my dad at the center. Unfortunately, this was a readmission for my dad, and we had many questions about how we were going to prevent this from continuing to reoccur. The bedside report was outstanding, Brady came into the room, knelt next to the bed to make eye contact with my dad, pulled his mask down so my dad could see him and hear him (since he is so hard of hearing) and most importantly included us in the handoff process. My dad has a long history of chronic back pain and Brady listened, and provided recommendations and interventions. Sunday morning, my mom and I pulled into the parking lot of the hospital to visit my dad, Brady was walking to his car after his night shift. He acknowledged us, we talked about dad's night, and reassured us that he was on a path to a successful discharge plan. He didn't have to do that, this was above and beyond and so much appreciated. Brady was never in a rush, he was professional and kept my dad the priority. Each night I left, I knew he was in excellent hands, and in the small amount of time I interacted with Brady I developed trust and it was evident my dad trusted him as well. My dad would share each morning that Brady would come in and they would just talk. Thank you for putting my dad at the center, you made being a compassionate nurse look easy.
