She was sweet and kind, and it is clear that she is a devoted nurse with so much knowledge and genuinely cares about her patients, even when they are no longer in her care.
Our family member was transferred from an outlying small ER to Borgess Hospital. When he arrived, he was taken to the 8th floor for treatment while awaiting admission for a bed on the 3rd floor. He was placed in the care of Brandy, and from the first moment we encountered her, she was nothing less than outstanding. Not knowing what exactly was causing my father-in-law's medical issues, we were coming into this situation with many questions. Brandy was on the ball immediately, from the various labs, tests, blood work, and med changes, she took the time to explain what was happening and WHY. She was calm, confident, and reassuring to us and him. She was in to see him multiple times throughout the 5 hours we spent on the 8th floor waiting for his room assignment. She also brought levity to a tense situation, which was much appreciated. I mention this because, throughout our entire journey over the next week of care, nothing could compare to her.

Two days later after he had been moved to the 3rd floor, I ran into Brandy at the elevators, and she recognized me immediately. She inquired about my father-in-law's status and how his treatment was coming along and gave more medical support about his care. She could have just smiled and kept on walking, but she didn't.

A week after my father-in-law was released from the hospital, I again encountered Brandy out in public. She instantly asked how he was doing. I gave her a quick update, and she still gave encouragement and provided additional suggestions on how to help him monitor his meds and blood pressure. She was "off-duty" but still went the extra mile when she didn't have to.

Working in public service is generally thankless, and I want to make sure that she knows how important her care is to him and his family. She was sweet and kind, and it is clear that she is a devoted nurse with so much knowledge and genuinely cares about her patients, even when they are no longer in her care. We are grateful to have crossed paths with her. Borgess is lucky to have her, and so are any of her patients! Thank you, Brandy!
