Bre was working as charge a night a code came in. She brought the dad to the room and talked him through the entire code, which included each member of the code team, what was going on, what medications were being given, and their side effects. This was helpful so he understood what we were doing in order to try and save his daughter and know we were doing everything we could at the time she was brought to us. She was very aware of the situation and the people in the room. She made sure she was able to switch compressors out when we were tired, provide staff to switch out for IV/IO placement, and make sure there were enough members of the ED and PICU in the room to provide the most rational decisions for the patient. Although we did not get the outcome we had hoped for, we got reassurance from the dad at the end of the code. He notably said, "You guys did everything you could do." I think this was a time when Bre's empathy truly showed and really showed what kind of nurse she is and who she is to come.
