We are so lucky to have such great care at Sanford. Our nurse Britni really helped us out and we couldn't have made it without her great compassion!
Many situations come to mind, but two stand-out.
First, our daughter, D, was having a lumbar puncture, and she had been experiencing delusions and was just not thinking straight. The nurses and staff tried to calm, console, redirect, and reposition her for the procedure; after about 10 - 15 long minutes of her screaming and crying, they decided it was best to stop the procedure. She had been crying for her dad, and the doctor came out tearfully and heartbroken that they couldn't get the procedure completed. Britni consoled me and stayed with D and I while she helped to settle her down and get her into bed.
Second, of many situations, D was scheduled to have a procedure to remove fluid from her lungs. She was still not thinking straight and was not herself. Britni was there the whole time. We got D in position for the procedure, where Britni was in the front. As she sat on the table, I was able to hold D's hand, while our other daughter was there to calm her too. D was not tolerating pain at this point. Britni made her as comfortable and as calm as she could. We had about 3 minutes left and Britni's calming presence and redirection allowed D to remain still and calm her down during the procedure. Britni showed so much compassion and care. She is a natural Sanford Angel.
