As a local flight nurse, I was recently asked to transport a patient with an intracranial hemorrhage from Genesis East to a higher-level facility. On my assessment, I discovered the patient's neurological status was rapidly deteriorating.

Optimal care would be that this patient would receive a medication called Mannitol, but because this medication crystalizes rapidly, it must be kept stored at a specific temperature within the hospital pharmacy. Normally this situation requires a trade-off - I can transport the patient immediately without waiting for the medication, or I can delay transport giving pharmacy time to deliver the medication. However, thanks to Brittany going above and beyond, no trade-off was required.

Brittany personally ran down to the pharmacy in order to pick up the medication in person while the patient was loaded into the helicopter and then took it up to the helipad while the pilot was starting the aircraft to hand it off to the flight crew for infusion during transfer. This is a great example of Brittany's commitment to providing the highest quality critical care and willingness to go out of her way in order to do the best for patients.

Thanks to her dedication, this patient was transported to a specialized center as rapidly as possible and received the highest quality medical care possible en route.
