Brittany takes the time out to celebrate even the little things for her staff. She will often come up and talk to a staff member to congratulate them on their engagement or even give someone a shout-out during the huddle.
Brittany is the definition of what it means to be a people-first manager. Before she was even officially our manager, she would come to our unit to meet her soon-to-be staff to get to know them and their needs for the unit. Since then, she has become the heart and soul of our unit and has brought so much light and joy that we haven't seen in many, many years.
Although Brittany has faced many obstacles and challenges during her time as our manager, she always takes the time to listen to her staff. Even on her most stressful days, if there is a problem that someone is having, she is always willing to take the time out of her day to problem-solve because if it's important to her staff, then it's important to her. It's not uncommon to see Brittany attending both dayshift's and nightshift's huddle and staying many hours after to talk with her nightshifters and ensuring they have everything they need.
She has also helped to unify our unit by hosting book club nights, planning social meetups, and even planning a holiday party! Brittany takes the time out to celebrate even the little things for her staff. She will often come up and talk to a staff member to congratulate them on their engagement or even give someone a shout-out during the huddle. During her weekly email updates to the unit she loves to shout out the staff for catch me at my bests, life celebrations, birthdays, and everything in between. This small effort goes so far with making the staff feel supported and cared about.
Not only does Brittany put her people first, but she is also passionate about our kids. It's not a surprise to see Brittany packed up and getting ready to leave for the night but drop everything to tend to a patient's needs if she hears the call light going off. During our case management shortage, Brittany took time away from her management duties to assist our case management team during the week and would come in on the weekends to get her work done. She even delivered a wheelchair to a patient's home on a Saturday when they weren't able to receive one prior to their discharge. I am confident that I am speaking for all of CIRU by nominating Brittany for this award. She constantly goes above and beyond to be an advocate for her entire team, and this is one way we can advocate for her. Our unit is forever changed for the good by Brittany becoming our manager. We will forever be grateful for all the things she's done to support us and for showing us what it means to have a fantastic manager!
