The last place you want to spend your time is in the hospital when you work in healthcare yourself. My stay was supposed to be shorter than it was. I was very frustrated and I was getting quite discouraged. On my second night, I was introduced to Brooke who would be my night time nurse. Brooke was a superstar. Anytime I needed anything she was there. She was very aware of when I was awake and checked on me, not just because it was time for pain meds or an assessment. She was so kind and never did I feel like I was a bother to her. She explained everything she was doing as she did it, and also why she was doing it.
There are so many things I could say about Brooke and how she impacted my hospital stay. But, something even more special stuck out about her. She took the time to visit with my support person, ensured her needs were being met, the goals for her night shift, and she answered all the questions she had. Needless to say, she felt that I was in good hands for the night and she was able to go home.
Shortly before the end of her shift, which tends to be a busy time, she sat on the end of my bed and wanted to hear my story and my weight loss journey. She looked at pictures of me before compared to now. I was her center of attention at that time. I truly felt like I was more than a patient, she was someone who wanted to know me as a person and not just a patient. She made such a positive impact on my stay that nearly everything else that had happened didn't matter.
Brooke is a shining star, and she is what Regional Health stands for. I can assure you that every patient she has taken care of had the best care.

A hospital stay can be very unpleasant. When you are in pain or have a serious illness, you need to be taken care of.
Brooke was so kind, very helpful, caring and fun. She always had a smile and was willing to make me comfortable and pain-free.
She made my hospital stay very pleasant by taking special care of my needs. Her smile was very contagious!
