We would like to take a moment to recognize a phenomenal nurse who is part of the NICU team at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. I must say everyone was absolutely amazing but Brooke Melton, RN was a cut above. Brooke was one of the nurses who frequently cared for our infant daughter who was in the NICU for eight days.

Brooke was so good with our daughter. Brooke is both nurturing and caring. It is apparent that Brooke truly loves the babies that she cares for. It is easy to see that Brooke thoroughly enjoys her job and is not just there to collect a paycheck. Brooke not only cared for our daughter, she cared for us as well. Brooke acknowledged our daughter’s struggles but would frequently remind us that although she was facing some challenges, she was going to be all right. As new/first-time parents, we needed the reassurance that Brooke provided.

Having a baby in the NICU is quite an emotional experience. I can’t express how important it is to receive compassionate care while you are there. We were definitely blessed to have Brooke with us every step of the way. Brooke goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. Brooke was always concerned with our daughter’s well-being but Brooke also showed concern for the well-being of both my wife and myself. Brooke ensured my wife was eating by ordering meal trays for her. Brooke ensured that I was sleeping by converting the loveseat in our daughter's room into a bed. It should be noted that Brooke was not even working as our daughter’s nurse the day she made the loveseat into a bed for us. Brooke had come into work for in-service training that day and stopped to check in on us prior to going home for the day.

Brooke also stayed late, after her shift was over, to complete our daughter’s discharge. Brooke took her time in educating us. Brooke then went outside and helped us secure our daughter’s car seat. Although she was late in going home to her own family, Brooke never once made us feel rushed. Brooke goes the extra mile when it comes to her patients and their families.

Brooke deserves the most heartfelt, Thank You!!! Brooke, please know that we love you and appreciate you more than we will ever be able to express in words!!! Thank you for your kindness, your guidance, your care, and your compassion!!! Thank You For Simply Being You!!! You were exactly what the three of us needed and we will forever be grateful for you!!! I hope that HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital realizes what an asset they have in you!!! I hope you always know how special and authentic you are!!! You are an Angel walking on earth!!! You truly have touched our lives and we know you have done the same for so many other families!!! You are so genuine!!! Brooke, you may not be famous to the world but I hope you know that you will forever be famous in our hearts!!!
