Camille Johnson, RN, was working last week on 2 south. Her patient was to go home with home O2 and the Medical West rep arrived to instruct the patient on the home tank. When he attempted to speak to the patient, she was very anxious and did not seem to be understanding the instruction. The Med West rep asked Camille to talk to the patient. He stated her interaction with the patient should be an instructional video for all staff. She was empathetic, patient, and calm. Not only did she take 20-30 minutes to calm the patient and help with instruction, but she also did the same once the patient's daughter arrived. He could tell she had made a connection with the patient throughout her shift as she was able to bring up different things about the patient's family in their conversation which helped in calming her.
I believe Camille is a DAISY Nurse based on her compassion and empathy shown to not just this patient but all her patients I see her interact with while at work.
