We had a 4-year-old patient arrive to our department without a guardian, barefoot, scared, and covered in lice. Candice Burrola (RN) took this child to the shower and gently de-liced her long hair. Then Candice took her break and had time to run to the store and purchase new clothes, shoes, toys, and books for the patient. This 4-year-old did not talk to any staff member but loudly laughed as she walked around in her new shoes, clearly enjoying them. Candice showed such love and compassion for this patient that when she was discharged the patient spoke her only words to Candice, saying "Thank you!!"
