January 2011 Honoree
carey acosta, RN
Extraordinary (def) Exceptional to a very marked extent. This is the word in the English language which describes Carey Acosta. One morning I was paged STAT to the Ob-Gyn floor to see a patient. The patient was critically ill with peritonitis. The patient survived multiple operations and a lengthy hospital stay only because of Carey. She was persistent in following her instincts, training, and experience. She knew something was very wrong with the patient and would not take 'no' for an answer. It was through Carey's insistence that the patient's clinical condition be properly worked up and diagnosed, she is responsible for saving this patient's life.
Thank you, Carey, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
