Carina showed patient care and advocacy while in clinical in med surge. She was feeding a patient who could not care for himself due to his injuries. He took a long time to eat his meals and did not speak much English. Carina took her time feeding him and talking to him about himself and his injuries and how he was feeling about his life and what his goals were when he was able to go home. Carina was told about procedures that had been recommended to him by a CNA, such as colostomy bag, nephrectomy bags, and feeding tube. Being concerned she went to our instructor and explained the situation, while utilizing HIPAA, and questioned why those procedures would be recommended. Carina shows that she will he an amazing nurse with patient advocacy, care, compassion, and patience.
