Every day this nurse comes in never knowing what the day will hold. She is part of a unique group of clinical leaders that must consider the needs of every unit in the hospital and balance resources with needs. She does this with a finesse that is based on years of experience and a high EQ. She feels the decisions she makes both analytically and emotionally showing compassion for this who have to change plans or stretch capacity.
It is not uncommon for needs to exceed resources or for the timing to be off. This nurse has delayed admissions, helped units move patients, provided resources when crises hits and even covered so staff can eat or get a break. She is compassionate regarding care, ensuring that patients do not sit in the lobby but get the care they need. She is tough when she needs to be ensuring the staff acts responsibly and does not take advantage of another team.
She supports others, has assisted with our family holiday giving and looks for ways to recognized staff. She frequently acknowledges others in the huddle and sends email recognitions to UDs for their staff. She is quick to reward and encourage and recognizes that new staff needs additional support.
She participates in interview panels, provides feedback for reviews and is able to coach people to be their best selves. It is not easy to get away from daily responsibilities, but she attends leadership meetings and shares concerns and feedback. She loves this hospital, the work we do and the care we give. She is a Nurses' Nurse!
