Carley is a fantastic human being and an amazing example of what a DAISY Award Honoree should be.
Carley is a fantastic human being and an amazing example of what a DAISY Award Honoree should be. I have personally observed her in the role of nurse and as a charge nurse. It is so important to understand that she absolutely leads by example and is always available to solve very difficult and challenging situations. Not only that, she always has a smile on her face, and even under very challenging and stressful situations, she is able to comfort and cheer up not only the patient but the parents as well.

I cannot even begin to tell you what a difference she has made in the life of my son. My son had a G/j change, and she sat with me while he 'expressed his displeasure' with the G/j change. (What three-year-old wants to be held down?) She made me laugh, she talked to me and treated me like my feelings mattered too. She also gave my kiddo a high five when he was done, and he was all smiles. Even more so important was her actions today. The extension on my son's g broke off in the port. In the past, this has meant that he would have to go through another G/j change. (Two in a week!) We were so fortunate that this nurse was here and was in charge. She jumped into action, grabbed several things, and started to work on getting that tiny slimy piece of plastic out of a locked-in hole. She was so diligent, and it took quite a while, but she was successful.

While doing this difficult procedure on the squirmy three-year-old, she is talking the other nurses through what she is doing and comforting me at the same time. The three other nurses in the room admitted that they would have given up before then. Even if she weren't successful, she would still be deserving. She puts her patients and her families first every day. My son has had several nurses who have been trained by this nurse, and their compassion and skills are always evident in their care of my son. She is someone that CHOA- Scottish Rite is very fortunate to have as a nurse, and she is a true asset to the third floor. More importantly, she is someone that my son loves.
