Our hospital had a case where a new mother of twins died in the ICU from complications. The parents were from El-Salvador and had no family members in the Dallas area. Carole spent a great deal of time giving comfort to the father and the nurses who cared for the mother and her babies. Carole spent countless hours sitting with the mother despite her being unresponsive and giving her updates on the twins. She brought down pictures of the infants to put at her bedside. She was instrumental in helping to get infants down to the ICU for skin to skin contact on their mother. Carole helped to honor all the Dad's wishes. The twins were with their mother when she died. Carole made sure that there was grief counseling available for staff to help them cope. She came by and checked on the nurses to see how they were doing emotionally.
